- 28 January – Turkish diplomat Kemal Arıkan assassinated by Armenian terrorists in Los Angeles.[2]

- 10 April – Bülent Ecevit arrested for an article he wrote.[2]
- 23 April The national broadcaster TRT broadcasts in color.
