Nankin is a rural locality in the Livingstone Shire, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2021 census, Nankin had a population of 176 people.[1]

Geography

The now-closed Emu Park railway line entered the locality from the west (Nerimbera) and exits to the north. Four now-abandoned stations served the locality:

  • Nankin Junction railway station (23°23′19″S 150°37′51″E / 23.3886°S 150.6307°E / -23.3886; 150.6307 (Nankin Junction railway station (former)))[3]
  • Leaholme railway station (23°21′55″S 150°38′51″E / 23.3652°S 150.6474°E / -23.3652; 150.6474 (Leaholme railway station (former)))[3]
  • Coolcorra railway station (23°21′24″S 150°39′19″E / 23.3566°S 150.6554°E / -23.3566; 150.6554 (Coolcorra railway station (former)))[3]
  • Sleipner Junction railway station (23°20′48″S 150°39′41″E / 23.3468°S 150.6614°E / -23.3468; 150.6614 (Sleipner Junction railway station (former)))[3]

The now-closed branch line to Broadmount separated from the Emu Park railway line at Nankin Junction and travelled to the south-west (now Thompson Point) through the following abandoned railway stations within the locality (from west to east):[4][5]

The Rockhampton–Emu Park Road runs through from south-west to north-west.[6]

History

Nankin Junction Provisional School opened in 1899. On 1 January 1909 it became Nankin Junction State School. It closed circa 1940.[7]

Demographics

In the 2016 census Nankin had a population of 170 people.[8]

In the 2021 census, Nankin had a population of 176 people.[1]
