Gail Godwin adalah seorang novelis Amerika Serikat, lahir di Alabama.[1] Ia menuntut ilmu di bidang jurnalistik di University of North Carolina dan meneruskan di Universitas Iowa untuk meraih gelar doktor di bidang sastra inggris.[1] Tesis yang di ajukan olehnya adalah sebuah novel berjudul The Perfectionist.[1] Setelah itu, Godwin menjadi profesor di Universitas Illinois dan terus menulis novel hingga akhir hayatnya. Novelnya yang paling terkenal berjudul A Mother and Two Daughters yang terbit pada 1981.[1]
