John Christopher

John Christopher, pseudonimo di Sam Youd (Huyton, 16 aprile 1922 – Bath, 3 febbraio 2012), è stato uno scrittore e autore di fantascienza inglese. Oltre che come Samuel Youd e Christopher Youd, ha scritto anche sotto gli pseudonimi di Stanley Winchester, Hilary Ford, William Godfrey, Peter Graaf, Peter Nichols e Anthony Rye. È conosciuto soprattutto per la trilogia de I tripodi e per quella di Sword of the Spirits che sono dedicate ai ragazzi, e per i suoi romanzi di fantascienza apocalittica e post apocalittica.

Biografia

Sam Youd^[1] nacque nel Lancashire e frequentò la Peter Symonds' School a Winchester (ora Peter Symonds College). Prestò servizio presso i Royal Corps of Signals tra il 1941 e il 1946. Una borsa di studio della Rockefeller Foundation gli rese possibile perseguire la sua carriera di scrittore, iniziando con il romanzo The Winter Swan del 1949 e raggiungendo la popolarità negli anni cinquanta e sessanta grazie a diverse opere interessanti, la migliore delle quali probabilmente è Morte dell'erba (1956).

Nel 1966 cominciò a scrivere fantascienza per adolescenti rinnovando il suo successo^[1].
