Orphans of the Storm

Orphans of the Storm (sh. Siročad oluje), ponekad poznat i kao Dvije sirote, je američki crno-bijeli nijemi historijski film snimljen 1921. u režiji D. W. Griffitha. Predstavlja adaptaciju kazališnog komada Les Deux Orphelines francuskih autora Adolphea D'Enneryja i Eugenea Cormona, koji je uživao veliku popularnost na svjetskim pozornicama u drugoj polovici 19. i početkom 20. vijeka. Naslovne protagonistice - čije likove tumače sestre Lilian i Dorothy Gish - su Henriette i Louise Girard, Francuskinje iz skromnih porodica koje u predvečerje Revolucije odlaze u Pariz odlaze tražiti lijek za Louisineu sljepoću, te ulaze u cijeli niz neprilika. Iako je zadržao najveći melodramatskog sadržaja iz predloška, Griffith je scenarij djelomično promijenio dodavši prikaz Revolucije i post-revolucionarnog Terora kao i uz njih vezanih historijskih ličnosti; vjeruje se da je poticaj za to bila nedavna Oktobarska revolucija kao i uz nju vezani događaji u drugim zemljama u kojoj je vidio odraz nekadašnjeg krvoprolića. Griffith se u filmu kroz dijaloge likova eksplicitno izjasnio protiv klasne borbe. Orphans of the Storm je doživio veliki uspjeh, ali predstavljao početak kraja Griffithove filmske karijere, s obzirom da će nakon ovog filma snimati komercijalne promašaje.
