Podophyllum peltatum[1] je zeljasta višegodišnja biljka iz familije Berberidaceae. Njeno prirodno stanište su listopadne šume istočne Severne Amerike.[2] Poput mnogih drugih prolećnih efemeroida, ona se niče iz zemlje pre nego što šuma ozeleni, i zatim polako ugine tokom leta; njen životni vek je nešto duži od drugih prolećnih emfemerala, kao što je Trillium.

Toksičnost

Zreli plod je jestiv u malim količinama, do je u velikim količinama otrovan. Rizom, lišće i korenje su takođe otrovni.[3] Ova biljka sadrži podofilotoksin,[4] koji je veoma toksičan ako se konzumira, ali se može koristiti kao topikalni lek.
